Ruben J. Villarreal, 59, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A dedicated family man, a proud member of Blue Hope Nation, and a passionate advocate in the Cancer Ambassador Support Group, Ruben touched countless lives with his strength, humor, and compassion.
Born in 1965, Ruben's work ethic and drive showed early. His first job was at Luby’s Cafeteria, where he discovered a deep respect for hard work and service. Over the years, he brought that same dedication to roles at Pep Boys, Chevrolet, BMW, and Volvo, forming lifelong friendships along the way. Most recently, he worked for the San Antonio Housing Authority for approximately seven years as a maintenance technician, where he took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication and craftsmanship.
Ruben was a man of many joys. He loved fishing — finding peace in the quiet moments by the water — and he never passed up a good challenge in Toon Blast. An adventurous foodie, Ruben delighted in exploring new cuisines, always eager to try something bold and share the experience with others.
In every chapter of his life, Ruben led with heart. Whether offering support to fellow cancer warriors or simply making someone laugh on a tough day, he was a source of strength and kindness to all who knew him.
Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Felipe M. Sr and Tomasa Villarreal and brother, Felipe M. Villarreal Jr.
He is survived by his wife Margarita, children, Jonathan Andrew Sr., Christine Ann Villarreal, Jeremy Glass, grandchildren, Kathrine Elisa, Johnathan Andrew Jr., David Andrew, Naomi Bella, siblings, Elisa Villarreal, Emilia (Frank), Hernandez, Felipe M. Jr.(deceased) wife Anita Villarreal, Elena (Charles), Tijerina, Alma (Edward) Alcantar and numerous family members, his support pet, Polar Bear and Bud his hamster.
