

Ruby Alice Weathermon, 97 years old, passed away peacefully with family and friends in San Antonio, Texas on March 22, 2015. Born in 1918 in Bogota, Texas, Ruby lived a full life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Ruby leaves behind many family members and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Sidney Weathermon; and her daughter, Betty Jean Thomason. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Don and Phylis Weathermon. She is also survived by her sister, Pearl Harris ("Sister") of El Paso, Texas, and five loving grandchildren, Michael Thomason of Petaluma, California; her special granddaughter, Angela Noel Weathermon of Murfreesboro, Arkansas; Stacy Lynn Speedlin of San Antonio, Texas; Cara Elizabeth Speedlin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and David Speedlin of Blacksburg, Virginia. Finally, she is survived by four great grandchildren, Jay, Emma, Christian and Kaitlyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby and her husband, Sid started their married life in Texas but later moved to Murfreesboro, Arkansas where both children were raised. After retiring, they moved back to Texas and enjoyed volunteering for their church, square dancing, and making polished rock jewelry. Ruby had a myriad of hobbies including quilting and china painting. She was a talented seamstress making most of her daughter's school clothing. She was passionate about serving her Lord including serving as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. This service continued well into her nineties. She was loyal to her friends especially the members of the Seekers Sunday School Class of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. She was fiercely independent living on her own up until the last few weeks of her life. The family expresses special appreciation to Mike and Marilyn Dickinson and the owner and staff of Moss Oak Place. Your unselfish and loving care of Ruby during the last days of her life comforted not only Ruby but her immediate family. You were God's hands and feet providing love and solace. Services will be held at the Garden Chapel of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Blanco, Texas at 3:00 p.m. where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Assistance League of San Antonio.
