

Russell was born on November 22, 1918 in Elgin, Illinois and was received into the loving arms of his Father on September 24, 2012. Before graduating from John Marshall Law School and being admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association, he met and married the love of his life, Rita Rickert. They celebrated 70 beautiful years of marriage last year. Russ enlisted in the Army and served in the European Theatre of Operations during WWII and attained the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged. After the war he was very active in Veterans organizations in the state of Illinois. During this time he organized the DAV chapter in Elgin and served as their first Commander. He later served as the Commander of the American Legion Alamo Post #2 in San Antonio after moving to Texas for his health. Alamo Post #2 was the largest Legion post in Texas. He also held various offices in the VFW. After he was admitted to the Texas Bar Association, he worked for insurance companies in San Antonio and Dallas until his retirement from Southwestern Life Ins. Co. in Dallas. During that period he wrote several articles which appeared in national insurance company publications. Russ and his wife lived in Sparkman Club estates in Dallas for 50 years. Some of the things he did through the years there was organize and manage Little League baseball teams; deliver Meals on Wheels; and was a member of Hospice. He also served a term as President of Sparkman Club Estates. He was a Deacon, Elder and Trustee in the Presbyterian Church too. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rita, and his parents, Emma and Emil. He leaves behind as his legacy his three children, Patricia (Arlen) George-Schechtman in Concord, CA, Dennis (Connie) Kalk in San Antonio, and James (Ivonne) Kalk in No. Richland Hills. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
