

Violet Ruth Moore Crunden Butchers, age 98, passed away on Wednesday, April 13th at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas. Ruth lived her life with joy and grace and willingly shared those gifts with others.
She was preceded in death by Major General USA Ralph Joseph Butchers. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 11, 1912. Her parents were James Troy Moore and Nora Chamberlain Moore.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, The Order of the Daughters of The King, and The Daughters of the American Revolution. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross and received The Medal of Freedom for her service in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. She also served as a volunteer at the Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her niece, Jacqueline May, and family; her niece, Mary Catherine Montgomery, and family; her niece, Joann Tschudin, and family; her nephew, Troy Moore, and family; her nephew Edward Koenigsmark; her niece, Susan Christesson, and husband; son-in-law, Donald Thomas Beaman; grandson, Mark T. Beaman, and wife, Patricia Lee, and daughter, Sarah Ann; and her granddaughter, Carol Beaman Dodd, her husband, Matthew Dodd, and their children, Araba and Miles.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the residents and staff at the Army Residence Community for the loving care and support they provided to Ruth, since her move to the ARC in 1998, and to VistaCare Hospice, in her final days.
