Mrs. Kees, my condolence on your husbands death. My heart is filled with grief for you and your daughter, know that I will keep you and her in my prayers and thoughts. Death is an awful thing to happen to any of us at any time. Remember that although your time with him was cut short a least you will carry those memories in your heart for ever and you will share them with your daughter. If there is any thing that I can do for you in your time of need please contact me through the email provided even if a prayer is all you need.

Dear Kees Family,

We were very sad to hear that Ryan passed away. We are sorry for your loss and send you our heartfelt condolences.

We got to know Ryan when he was living in Badem while he was working at Spangdahlem Air Base. He was one of the nicest people we have ever met. We spent a lot of good times together meeting up at his apartment or visiting local events. We will keep Ryan in our hearts as the likable, honest and kind man he was and we consider ourselves lucky for having known him.

We had some good times in the backyard at Joe and Adam’s houses in good ol San Antonio. Many great memories. Reds! Well and of course how much we all loved Ric Flair.  All I can say is Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. 
You will be missed and to his family I am sorry for your loss. 

So many memories! From backyard bonfires and BBQs, ladder golf, Missions games, to Rick Flair and Grumpy Cat memes. I'll never forget that time when you, Adam, Gus and Joe missed Anthony sooo much after he moved to Germany, you all would have man-skype dates while watching ESPN! We made some life-long friendships with our group in San Antonio. Those military family bonds that last forever. We will all miss your awesome sense of humor and laughter. 

To Ryan's Family-I am so sorry for your loss. Ryan was such a great person and friend who will be truly missed. 

Msgt. Kees was always full of life when I saw him. He was a great mentor who always looked out for the people in his squadron. I would always be happy going to his office because of what a pleasant, funny, and charming person he was. Seeing him would bring a smile to my face because there was always one on his.

To the Kees family,

Ryan was much more than a friend and a wingman, I considered him my brother. We shared so many memories together in our time at the 606ACS. I'll never forget when I saw him at my wedding here in Oklahoma. I was so happy to see him and share that moment with him. I was going through a very dark time in my life and he came out of nowhere to share his struggles and his story. My you be with god Ryan. To Mariam and Ella my you remember the best of times, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kees, thank you for all of the laughs and jokes during our time at Spangdalhem and while at CCSD. It was truly a pleasure to have known you and watch your positive impact on so many. Every time I hear the theme song to CSI Miami I will think of you and smile (inside joke). My condolences to the family for the loss of such a wonderful, compassionate and caring man. 

I am still in shock. You were my Airman at Spangdahlem. So incredibly smart and tech savvy, great sense of humor and totally humble. Just an all around great person with a kindred spirit. looked through the pictures here; remembered our deployment to Kandahar in 2009.  We've moved bases and lost touch over the years, but the memories are real. I am angry and sad you're gone. But with the tragic news, it did give us 606 ACS brethren a chance to reconnect and check on each other. And an opportunity to share our memories of you with your family. You are missed. Godspeed.

MSgt Kees, 

One of my fondest memories of you is going to lunch at Panera Bread with you and Colonel Cote. I always brought my little girls with me to these lunches, and they quite frankly could be feral sometimes, but you were always understanding and nice about it. One particular time, my two year old insisted Colonel Cote stole her banana, she also accused you of being in on it (even though her banana was next to her slightly covered by a napkin). You were shocked and kept telling her you would never do that, but no matter what we told her, she wasn’t having it; you all were guilty. I was a little embarrassed about her sass at the table, but you extended nothing but laughter and assurance she was exactly like her dad! You even offered her a Panera gift card at the end of lunch so she could pick out a dessert. 

You were nothing but kind and genuine. I’ve heard Matt come home from rough days of work over the years and talk about how you were the only one who understood, and your support meant a lot to him. 

You and your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you know that you are truly cherished. RIP. 

Ryan dropped by my office every few months to chat and always lifted my spirits. He really was the all around nice guy with a great personality. A sad farewell to a wonderful person I was very fortunate to know.

You will be greatly missed. You were an amazing wingman and First Sergeant. 

Thank you sir for always being willing to help with advice of any kind.  Thank you for giving me a chuckle when I needed it.  Lastly, thank you for just being you.  I pray for healing for your family and I wish you peace in the spirit realm.  My condolences to your friends and family.

For those that did not know him, you missed out on a true light in this world.  

To Ryan, your journey ended to soon my brother.  I will miss the way you’d walk in with a smile and a way to make people laugh no matter the day they were having.

I had one encounter with MSgt Kees and it was a memorable one. I am happy to remember him as a compassionate man with tireless humility. He had a welcoming presence about himself which made it easy for me to engage with him. Peace that surpasses all understanding unto the family. R.I.P.



I still have the uniform you covered in pink toner. You were helping me when I was struggling to get the magenta toner out and you came over and just yanked it out. The powder got all over my uniform and I was covered in pink the whole day. I will always have such good memories of the years we got to work together. 

I met Ryan only two weeks ago here at work and even in that one chance meeting, he left a lasting impression. He was cheerful, funny and an all around nice guy. He will be missed. Rest in peace Ryan.

He was super smart. He was super funny. He was so easy to get along with. He tutored me. He was the reason I was able to get promoted to Master Sergeant. He was such an amazing man.
