Sally Jo Mullican Selby, age 96, passed away on February 3, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Sally Jo Mullican was born on December 29, 1928, to Claude and Gillie Mullican, on a farm outside of Whitewright, Texas. Her family later moved to a dairy farm in Desert, Texas, where she lived until graduating from high school and moving to Sherman, Texas, to work at the Texas Telephone Company. While living in Sherman, Sally met Jack Selby through mutual friends. They married in Sherman on April 28, 1951. Sally and Jack moved around south Texas for several years as Jack worked in the food brokerage business, until finally settling in San Antonio, where they lived happily together until Jack’s passing in 2015.
Sally was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She made her home a place of comfort, joy, and love for her children and grandchildren. Sally and Jack were active in their church, serving together and making life-long friendships. Her faith in Jesus Christ was central to her life and evident in the home and family she and Jack built together.
A life-long learner, Sally excelled at whatever she put her mind to, including conquering the newest technology. She enjoyed being active. In her younger age, she loved to bowl and played on a ladies’ team for several years. In her older age, she took on golf, enjoying the sport with her husband and friends. From a good game of bridge to lunch groups with friends, Sally’s life was filled with fun and special friendships. She leaves a legacy of faith, love and a quiet, but can-do spirit.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Gillie Mullican, her husband of 64 years, Jack Selby, and her sister and brother-in-law, Robbie and Doyce Worsham. She is survived by her three children: Nancy Crane and her husband Dean, of Austin, Texas; Larry Selby and his wife Natalie, of Austin, Texas; and Suzanne Filippini and her husband David, of San Antonio, Texas. Grandchildren: Emily Timberlake (Brandon); Jennifer Chamness (Rob); Jeff Crane (Brittany); Anna Johnson (Will); Sallie Walton (Doug); Molly Fox (Mic); Samantha Booth (Dwight); Sara Jane Filippini (Chris). Great-grandchildren: Brady, Riley, Jack, Miller, Selby, Gwendolyn, Rowen, Eliza, Roscoe, and Dewey.
