

Rev. Dr. Sam L. Fore age 82 of San Antonio, died Sunday January 25, 2009. He was born in Floresville on September 25, 1926 and grew up in Corpus Christi.
Rev. Fore received a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern University in 1947, a Master of Theology from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1950 and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Huston-Tillotson College in 1973. He was ordained as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1949.
Rev. Fore's assignments in the United Methodist Church continued as Associate Pastor at Travis Park Church from 1950-52, Founding Pastor at St. Andrew's Church from 1952-57, Pastor at Tarrytown Church in Austin from 1957-60, and Pastor at First Church in Weslaco 1960-65.
He also served as a District Superintendent of the McAllen District from 1960-71 and was also the Council Director and Assistant to the Bishop of the Southwest Texas Conference from 1971-74. He held numerous leadership responsibilities include as Editor of THE TEXAS METHODIST, as a Trustee of the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, a member of the United Methodist Communications Council, Secretary of the Executive Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of the Christian Men, Inc, and also on the Board of Trustees of the Methodist Mission Home.
Since childhood he was a close friend of the Butt family and while still serving as a Methodist District Superintendent he began helping to organize the Laymen's Leadership Institutes as a volunteer. As a second career Rev. Fore was the National Director of Leadership Services for the H.E. Butt Foundation by special appointment of Bishop Ernest T. Dixon, Jr.
As a third career Rev. Fore was Co Owner of Gallery Vetro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Fore and his daughter, Martha Lane Fore and his brother, Roger Fore.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Fore and her husband, Dr. Dagoberto Martinez of Brownsville, TX; his son, Andrew C. Fore of Oklahoma City, OK; his grandchildren, Trey Fore and Paloma Martinez, the Keach Family of Robstown and other relatives.
