Sandra LaRee Tincher has passed away in San Antonio Texas on 7 February 2026 after suffering from dementia for a number of years. Although she resided in a number of places after her diagnosis, Redding was her home and always in her thoughts.
Sandy was born in Arvin California in 1939 to parents Buster and Alice Hodges. She grew up in Arizona, New Mexico, and California eventually graduating from Delano High School in 1957. She married Phillip Tincher in 1958 and raised a family in California, settling in Redding in 1969. She completed a bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Chico State and taught grammar school classes at Grant Elementary School. She continued to teach until retiring in 1999.
She loved her friends and family and will be dearly missed. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Phil who passed away from cancer in 1988. She is survived by her older brother and his wife Stan Hodges (Joyce); her three children and their spouses, Scott (Theresa), Beth (Ralph), and Chris; and her two grandchildren, Lauryn and Laney.
Sandy enjoyed teaching children, but also enjoyed traveling with her friends, skiing, hiking, spending time outdoors, and especially painting. She painted with water, oil and eventually pastels. She was prolific in painting landscapes of northern California locations with pastels. She continued to fill her house with pastels until showing signs of Frontotemporal Dementia, an ailment which eventually led to her death.
Sandy was always an animal lover. In remembrance of her, please donate to your local pet shelter or ASPCA.
