On November 23, 2015 I lost my best friend and mother, Sara Jane Poe Howell to endocarditis. She has now joined her husband, Tommy, in heaven. Known all over for her love and devotion to animals, she will be gathering them at the Rainbow Bridge before she takes her place with God.
Born in Albuquerque in 1934 to Edgar Allan Poe and Anna-Laura Duckin Poe, she moved to San Antonio at an early age. She graduated from Saint Mary's Hall to attend Vassar College and Graduate from Trinity University with a Master's Degree in English.
Sara Jane loved antiques and the history they represented.
She and her daughter, Anna-Laura, had many treasured collections and each piece represented a fun memory they shared together. Constant gatherings with friends and connecting with them on Facebook and Pinterest were her favorite pastimes.
Being an avid writer, many called upon her editing skills when writing articles. Prior to joining her husband, Tommy, in founding the family environmental business, she taught English at Edison High School. She kept the books until her sickness in September. She was a member of the SACC, Conservation Society and Castle Hills Women's Club.
Survivors include daughter, Anna-Laura Block; son-in-law, Michael Block; sister-in-law, Carolyn Howell; nephew, Jeff Howell (Janet) and nieces, Jennifer Howell, Janel Perez (Danny) and JoAnne Howell.
Special thanks to caregiver Josie Lopez.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
