Sara Jane Quigley Sonneborn

Sara Jane Quigley Sonneborn was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the daughter of Harry H. and Blanche Quigley. She attended Triadelphia High School and graduated from the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her license as a Registered Nurse. While at Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing, she served as a member of the United States Army Nurse Cadet Corps. After graduation, Sara was a practicing Registered Nurse throughout her early years, with specialization in pediatrics.

Sara married James E. Sonneborn in 1944 during World War II. They had two children, James D. and Suzanne. A devoted wife and mother, Sara was able to adapt to the many moves, new environments, and family adjustments as she and the children accompanied her husband in his Army assignments throughout the United States, Japan, Germany, and France. She always found time to work with her church, and was an active leader with both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts.

Sara was a member of Wimodausis Chapter No. 141, Order of the Eastern Star, and Nekodah Temple No. 44, Daughters of the Nile. She served her church as a member of the Vestry and was appointed Junior Warden in 1994. She was a Cursillista and served as President, Resurrection Episcopal Women of the Church chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King and was the Chair of the Resurrection Episcopal Church Service Committee. She also served as a Windcrest Women's Club Christmas Angel.

Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband James, her brother Thomas Quigley, and her son-in-law Neil McGinn. She is survived by her son, James D. (and his wife Dianne) Sonneborn of Smithfield, Virginia; her daughter Suzanne Sonneborn McGinn of San Antonio, TX; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
