Scott Thomas Imburgia was born in Chicago, Illinois. He married the only love of his life Lorraine Jack Imburgia at the age of 20 after he had joined the US Air Force. TSGT Imburgia served for 20 years where he discovered his passion and curiosity of science. Following his retirement from service, he worked in a medical lab at the VA.
For the next twenty years, he and Lorraine raised their two children Steven Imburgia and Patricia Mathews, in Chicago, England, Greece and they finally settled in San Antonio.
At the age of 41, Scott became Deacon Scott and was ordained December 3, 1976 to the Sacred Order of Diaconate and later received his Masters in Theology from St. Mary’s University. Deacon Scott faithfully served for 48 years and retired from the Archdiocese of San Antonio in June 2024.
He was assigned to teach the diaconate program for the Archdiocese of San Antonio and did his Parish work at Prince of Peace for many years. A number of Deacons who serve today were his students. Lorraine was also involved with working with future Deacon’s wives. He was then assigned to St. Dominic, which became his spiritual home. He lived to serve, not only God and his Church, but his family. “Honey” took great pride and joy in loving and being with all of us. We were truly blessed to have him and “Gramma Honey” in our lives.
Through the years, his daily joy was serving St. Dominic’s parishioners and spending time with each member who became his close friends and extended family. He will be missed by the community of St. Dominic his dearest friend Deacon Wayne (and wife Terry) along with Deacon Roger (Margarita), and Father Phil.
He is survived by son Steven, daughter in law Carol, daughter Patricia Imburgia Mathews, husband Andrew Mathews, grandchildren: Erin Krueger (and husband Kirt), Steven Imburgia, Alexandra Barbosa, Taylor Mathews and great-grandchildren: Tyler Krueger, Payton Krueger, Claire Krueger, Iliana Barbosa, Nazario Castillo IV.
He is joining all of his loved ones who predeceased him in death including his wife of 45 years Lorraine and her parents and all of her siblings, his parents, and two brothers.
From his beloved Lorraine’s family, he is survived by his nieces Julia Burke (and husband Luke with children Jack and Donovan) and Gretchen Decker and brother in law Frank Willy.
In lieu of flowers, the family is working with Deacon Scott’s alma mater, St. Mary’s University, to donate funds to help students. To make a donation, please call: 210-431-4243. Or the website: https://alumni.stmarytx.edu/support/give-now/.
