Scott Patrick McCabe passed away from his life on Veterans Day. He was born in Bismarck, ND, to Patrick and Janice McCabe. Scott grew up as a proud military Army brat and continued that legacy by going to the University of Northern Colorado, where he joined the Air Force ROTC and met his eventual wife, Cinda.
He graduated from Northern Colorado with distinguished honors and then officially began his Air Force career with a tour in Thailand and then in Vietnam, where he flew HC-130s. After the tour in Vietnam, he spent time in Enid, OK, where he flew T-37's at Vance AFB. Later, he flew both T-37's and T-38's at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX.
His most beloved and challenging flying was when he flew Rescue C-130s in Great Britain. Along with his brave crew members, he tallied up rescues in service to America and the international community.
His greatest achievement was being selected as the Squadron Commander of the 560th Flying Training Squadron known as the "Charging Cheetahs" at Randolph AFB from 1985-1987. He was highly decorated throughout his military career, retiring from the Air Force in 1988.
When Scott transitioned to his civilian career, he went on to have successful careers at both USAA and SWBC. He enjoyed working at both companies contributing to their growth and met many colleagues that he considered friends.
Scott enjoyed retirement spending his time making the land he and Cinda lived on even more beautiful. He relished time on his riding lawnmower, weed whacking, and finding ways to use his chainsaw. An avid reader, Scott went through many spy and war novels. He enjoyed reading next to the Big Thompson River when he traveled to Estes Park, CO, at least once a year.
He also cherished watching his granddaughters in their numerous activities and found a way to win many card games with them.
Scott will be missed by his wife Cinda, daughter Alyssa Morris (her husband, Stan), son Seth (his wife, Marquel) and granddaughters, Addison and Madeleine, and by his sister, Kathy Leatherman, and his brothers, David and Marc McCabe.
Services will be held on December 16, 2021, with a church service at 11:30am at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Alamo Heights followed by a visitation with family and friends. An interment service will follow with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fort Sam Houston Memorial Detachment or to Wreaths Across America.
We also pray that ALL of us continue to honor and celebrate our veterans for their service and untiring devotion to God and our country.
