

Sergio Joe Perez Jr was born on October 26, 1981, in Nuremberg, Germany. On July 22, 2023, our hearts were filled with immense sorrow as we said goodbye to this remarkable man in the city, he had called home, San Antonio, TX.An honorary Senior Warden for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Sergio dedicated himself to his career and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers. After graduating from the University of Texas San Antonio with a degree in Criminal Justice, Sergio began his career with the agency in 2008 as a correctional officer. He quickly promoted and held every ranking position at several units including the Dominguez State Jail, Connally, Pack, Polunsky, Neal, Wallace, and Gib Lewis. He most recently was set to continue his service as Senior Warden at the Ferguson Unit.Sergio was known for his leadership, hard work ethic, and dedication to the agency and his team at every unit he served. He was rarely ever seen without a smile on his face, spreading optimism and kindness everywhere he went. Not only was he an exceptional leader on the unit, but also off, and will always be remembered as a great friend and mentor to many throughout TDCJ. Additionally, Sergio demonstrated his commitment to duty and service by serving in the Navy in 1999.His commitment to his profession was matched only by his passion for the outdoors. Sergio found solace and excitement in hunting, fishing, and embracing the beauty of nature all around him.Above all, Sergio’s heart belonged to his family. He treasured every moment spent with them and took delight in being their confidant, mentor, and biggest supporter. Sergio’s love for his family knew no bounds, and his legacy as a devoted and caring father will continue to inspire and guide them in life.Sergio leaves behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy of love that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. He is preceded by his father Sergio Joe Perez SR, Grandmother Ruby Gunnoe Rodriguez, and Cousin Carla J. Perez, all of whom he now joins in eternal rest. He is survived by his loving mother, Linda Mae Perez, four beloved children: Elijah Perez, Jessenia Garcia, Noah Perez, and Jeremiah Perez. Sergio is also survived by his caring little sister Laura Christina Perez and dear nephew Isaiah Perry, God parents Luis and Sandra E. Munoz, and partner Tanya Perez.As we mourn the loss of Sergio Joe Perez Jr, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives, the kindness he shared, and the lasting impact of his warm and compassionate spirit. In honoring his memory, may we find peace in the precious moments we shared with him and continue to cherish the love and support he showed to us all.Forever in our hearts, Sergio Joe Perez Jr. will be dearly missed but never forgotten.The honor of serving as pallbearers goes to: Elijah Perez, Noah Perez, Jimmy Dougherty, Robert Espinoza, William Postalwait, and Luis M.
