Ms. Shirley K. (Winkler/Wright) Morgan was called to be with our Lord on Friday, October 10, 2014. She was a wonderful person that spread elegance, charm, and happiness wherever she went. She was a friend, counselor, advisor, shoulder-to-cry-on, and all-around good person to everyone. She was born to Dorothy and Emil Winkler Jr. in April of 1943 and married Nelson Wright in February of 1961. She graduated from Highlands High School in May of 1961.
She eventually obtained her real estate license and loved selling homes especially to first time home buyers. After the market turned she found herself working in the mortgage banking industry. She was happiest around water. Whether it was fishing at the coast or boating on a lake, some of her best times were spent around water with friends and family. After retirement she loved spending time with her friends and family. Then at age 68 she began volunteering at the American Red Cross-San Antonio Chapter for as long as she was physically able. It broke her heart when she was no longer able to "man that reception desk" there. She loved answering the phones and helping people that would come into the Red Cross. She was also a prominent member of her church and logged many hours assisting with planning festivals, attending bible study and making yummy desserts for pot-lucks. Shirley was a "mom" to everyone. She called herself the "fixer". She loved to listen or offer her assistance for any situations. Her wisdom and kindness were known by all who relied on her or looked to her for help. Many of her children's friends would simply call her "mom".
She is survived by her sisters and family, Phyllis and her husband Cris Hall of San Antonio and Betty and her husband Lynn Drda of Houston; her children, son James Nelson and his wife Therye Wright, children Michael, wife Jenna and 2 great grandchildren Samuel and Madelyn Wright, Bobby and wife Jennifer Wright, Stephen Wright and Nicolas Wright of Missouri. Daughter Tracey Lee and her husband Robert Grabatin, children Zachary and Matthew Stuart of San Antonio; two nephews, many cousins and multitude of friends. We know that she is now with friends and family that have passed before her and we all will miss her smile and wisdom but know she is excited to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Services will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 6:00 pm.
