

She was born September 18, 1944 in San Antonio, TX to Jewel and Josephine James. Shirley graduated from Sam Houston High School where she was a member of the marching band and played the saxophone. She was a founding member and was active with Abiding Presence Lutheran Church. Her greatest passion was being a devoted mother, being "Team Mom" to her children and their numerous activities. Shirley loved hosting family gatherings and holidays, especially Thanksgiving. She especially loved fishing with her husband Wayne and vacationing with the whole family at Port Aransas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Leonida Wendell. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Wayne Wendell; children, David Wendell and wife, Angie, Mark Wendell, Amy Garza and husband, Omar, and Lisa Kelly and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Tori and Jon Wayne Wendell, Colton Wendell, Lila and Marco Garza, Brant and Cora Kelly; siblings, Susan James, Judy James, Clyde James and wife, Kathy, Paula Quintanilla and husband, John; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and dearest friends, Kathy Jurzec and daughter, Beth Reyes, and Bobbie Lackey. The family wishes to thank Arden Courts and their staff for the loving care shown to Shirley.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
