

She was born on July 4, 1929, to Sammie Lee and Charles Granvil Turner, in Harlingen, Texas.
She graduated from San Benito High School and Durham's Business College in Harlingen, and also attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. Shirley married Arthur Wendt on September 14, 1950. She was a long time volunteer with Brownsville Mercy Hospital. She was retired from the Brownsville Independent School District and the San Antonio North East Independent School District.
For many years she sang in the Beethoven Damenchor choir in San Antonio. Shirley was a long time member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, and also sang in their choir.
She was a kind, loving person, and a wonderful wife and mother.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Arthur; sons, Gary of Grapevine, Texas and Ronald of New York, New York; sister, Doris Fox of San Benito, Texas; brother, Holice Turner of Yuba City, California; brother, Maurice Turner of Pasadena, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
