

Born in Ubon, Thailand, Soat was raised in Thailand and immigrated to the United States at the age of 20 in pursuit of opportunity and service. He proudly dedicated his life to the United States Marine Corps, serving for over 24 years and retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt, E-9). He fought in the Vietnam War, and during his distinguished career served in military intelligence as an interrogator and translator. His service in the Marines not only shaped his character and leadership, but also allowed him to see the world, broadening his perspective and deepening his appreciation for people, cultures, and service.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Soat continued his dedication to public service by working for the United States Department of State, where he applied his experience, discipline, and global insight before fully retiring. A proud American to his core, he embodied the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his military career and civilian service.
Soat was married to his beloved wife, Rose, for nearly 59 years. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, resilience, and family. He was a proud and honorable father to his son, John, and his daughter, Kim, and cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather.
Outside of service, Soat found joy in cooking, fishing, golfing, bodybuilding, and spending time with his family. He was known for his quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, John; his daughter, Kim (Clint); his grandchildren, Meghan, Cody, Maile, and Jesse; and his great-grandchildren, Lexi and Leif. He was the last surviving sibling of seven, preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas 78232, followed by burial with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
A Marine to his core, he lived by the values of honor, courage, and commitment, carrying those principles into every part of his life. With purpose, humility, and love, he lived a life of service. His mission complete, his legacy endures in the lives he touched and the example he set.
