Sonya was born in Manhattan, New York on March 11, 1927. Sonya was known from childhood for her beautiful ‘Sunny’ smile. Sonya held Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing and in Education. She was proud of her credentials from Hunter College, Bellevue School of Nursing and her teaching career at Willard Parker Hospital in New Yok City. She loved her travels and time as a military wife. She and Russell were married for 56 happy years. After retirement in San Antonio, they opened a ceramic shop in San Antonio and enjoyed time at their beach house in Matagorda Bay. Sonya was active in churches in duty stations around the world. She sang in all the choirs and was known for her beautiful voice. She was also deeply involved in the prayer groups of her churches. She prayed faithfully for her family, friends and others. There are so many more wonderful memories that we share about Sonya. She was loved and treasured for 96 years and now is at rest.
Sonya enjoyed singing, reading, and cooking. Believing that you are never too old to learn something new, she recently began journaling.
Sonya was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Eva Wohlberg and her husband Russell T. Rupp.
