Stan, son of Harold and Jean Hartgraves, was born in San Angelo, Texas in 1946 and as a military kid attended numerous schools across the USA and Brazil. He graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas and continued his education at Texas State University, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and the University of Southern California.
He served in the Air Force as a physical therapist and neuroscientist for over 20 years and retired in 1991 in San Antonio, Texas. He continued working in academia as a faculty and administrator until 2016.
In 2009, Stan and his wife started visiting the Yucatan Peninsula as visiting professors at the State University in Merida and realized the scarcity and need for well-prepared clinicians in areas of need (pediatrics, hand therapy, neurorehabilitation) to serve the population of the Peninsula (Mayan as well as Mestizo). In 2016, the Hartgraves moved to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico where they resided for almost four years full time while they founded the NGO (non-government organization) INTSA (Instituto Interamericano de la Salud) a higher education institution to provide masters level education in the health sciences, especially in occupational therapy. INTSA became the second school in Mexico to provide the masters in occupational therapy serving not only the state of Yucatan but the whole Republic of Mexico.
His life was full of adventures, one month he was in El Paso, Texas admiring the beautiful Franklin Mountains and the next month he was at the beach in Puerto Progreso in Yucatan having some cold drinks with friends enjoying good food and company.
He was the best friend one could have, funny, positive, helpful and the best dad to our daughter Maya.
Rest in Peace my dear husband, till we meet again.
