Lt. White was a proud graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of '49. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart Medals for his gallantry in combat service.
As a young Lieutenant, Stephen suffered devastating brain injuries during the Korean War. Despite these injuries, he went on to lead a full life, on his own terms - tough as nails.
He was able to enjoy life because of the loving care and concern of his guardian and friend of 53 years, John F. Canty.
Thanks and gratitude are given to Elia Tschirhart, Roy Parker, Sylvia Gutierrez, Dr. Mark Prange, Dr. Vicki Sparks, Cordie and John Britten and the staff of St. Francis Nursing Home for their kind and loving care.
Lt. White is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest White and Dolores Matthews; brothers: William and Richard White; and special long time friends, Herbert Turner and Lewis Tschirhart.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Whitehead; friend and guardian, John F. Canty and wife, Carol; numerous nieces and nephews.
On Tuesday, January 27th a graveside service will be held in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:15 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Francis Nursing Home, 630 West Woodlawn Ave., San Antonio, TX 78212.
