

CMSgt. Steven D. Norton (Ret.), age 72, passed away on Friday, January 10th, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on October 30th, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Betty Jane and Nelson Clyde Norton. He lived a life dedicated to service, family, and his passions, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Steve developed an early love for sports and the outdoors. His devotion to service led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 30 years. Throughout his military career, Steve was known for his unwavering discipline, leadership, and dedication. He earned numerous commendations and served in multiple capacities, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with. His commitment to his country was matched only by his love for his family and community. While serving his country he earned two master’s degrees at Webster University, earning a 4.0 over the four years. Steve always strived to do the best possible in all that he did.
Steve also took great pride in caring for his home. Whether it was mowing the lawn, planting flowers, or perfecting his garden, he found peace in working with his hands and maintaining a space that reflected his nurturing spirit.
Above all, Steve was a devoted sports fan. He loved and played all sports. No matter the time of year, you could always find him watching a game, often cheering on his beloved team with the enthusiasm of a lifelong supporter. His love for any sport was shared with his sons, as he taught them how to play sports and to be good sportsman, even if they lost. He created memories around the TV, watching and screaming at the TV, with his sons, during any sport that was on TV.
In addition to his family, Steve is remembered fondly by his friends, fellow veterans, and neighbors, all of whom benefited from his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity. His presence will be missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Clyde Norton. Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Norton; son SFC (Ret) Steven Norton; son Michael Norton (Perri Madden); grandson, Jason Norton; mom, Betty Jane Stiles; sister, Nancy Ward (Leon); brother, Roger Norton; brother, Kenny Norton (Sue); brother-in-law, Harry Sorgs; sister-in-law, Linda Shields.
Steve’s life was a testament to the values of dedication, love, and joy in the everyday life. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shape and inspire those he loved. Rest in peace, Steve. You served your country, your family, and your community with honor.
The family will receive friends and guests from 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 11:00 am at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital.
