Susan Mathews Hough

Susan was born on October 11, 1943 to William Franklin and Nell (Perry) Mathews in Little Rock, Arkansas, the first of their four children. She attended Edgewater High School in Orlando and the University of Florida in Gainesville. In June 1964, Susan married William Dennis Hough.

Susan’s life was highlighted by her devotion to her entire family and a distinctive career in education. Susan and her family lived throughout the world, as a military family and afterwards. She gave 28 years to the service of Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio, retiring from the NEISD Department of Fine Arts in 2008. She strove to make the holidays – particularly Christmas – special for her family, and the wonderful cakes that she made touched the lives of countless others.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Ruth Perry Mathews Mullen, in 2013. She is survived by her husband William Dennis Hough; children Pamela Hough Sills, William Patrick Hough, and Col. Michael Samuel Hough (USAF); sister Mary Mathews (Don) Leonard, brothers William (Lana) Mathews and John (Debra) Mathews; nephews Matthew Coy, Joshua Coy, Jason Mathews, Jonathan Mathews, and Jacob Mathews; nieces Lisa Soep, Melinda Rizzo, and Laura Simcik; and grandchildren Jordan Sills, Nathaniel Hough, and Samuel Hough.

A memorial service for Susan will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Austin Highway in San Antonio, Texas.
