Susan graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from UTSA and her Master’s Degree in Education from Oregon State University. Susan dedicated 28 years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher across three states. She also taught Sunday School for over 40 years, profoundly influencing the lives of thousands of children.
In 1986, Susan married Jeff Perritano, and together they raised two sons, David and Nathan. Susan loved to travel; she and Jeff lived in four states and visited 47 of the 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Vietnam, and, most recently, Italy, Greece, and Turkey last summer. She had a passion for planning trips and enjoyed the process nearly as much as the journeys themselves. One of her most cherished experiences was walking the streets of Ephesus last spring, marveling at sharing the same paths as the disciples.
Susan was deeply involved in the lives of her children. She started an AWANA program when they were young to introduce them to Bible stories, and she actively supported their activities throughout their childhood. When her sons participated in high school band, Susan was always present, volunteering at concession stands, chaperoning bus trips, and helping move equipment on and off the field for competitions. No matter where life took her, she always made time to fly home to be with her children throughout the year.
Her greatest joy in recent years was being “Memaw” to her grandsons, Edison and Jameson. Every week, she picked them up from daycare and school, welcoming them with their favorite snacks and endless love. Her home brimmed with toys, and the backyard became a haven of fun, from inflatable pool days to mud-making adventures with hoses.
Susan had an extroverted spirit—she never met a stranger. She embraced everyone she met, whether to teach, preach, or simply make a connection. On mission trips, she would effortlessly engage with new friends, spreading her warmth and faith. If she occasionally forgot a name, it never deterred her; she would lovingly call anyone “sweety.”
Susan was actively involved in every church she attended. Upon moving, she would introduce herself to the pastor, saying, “I’m here; where do you want me?” She served as the Children’s Director for Cibolo Valley Baptist Church for two years and led the prayer team at Alamo Community Church until her passing. Over the past few years, she hosted a Zoom Bible Study every Monday night, where this year's topic was the Book of Revelation—a study she was thrilled to lead. Even from hospital beds, nursing facilities, and rehab centers, Susan continued these discussions, with her final Zoom session held just a week before her passing.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jeff Perritano; her sons, David and Nathan; her grandsons, Edison and Jameson; and her daughter-in-law, Lindsey. She is also survived by her brother, Brett Hutchison; her sister, Michell; her mother-in-law, Patricia Perritano; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
She will be deeply missed, but her love and encouragement will continue to ripple around the world.
A visitation for Susan will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary - West, 1710 West Loop 1604 North, San Antonio, TX 78251. A funeral service will occur Monday, March 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Alamo Community Church, 5354 Talley Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253.
