Susan Marie (Schmidt) Rizzo

Susan Marie (Schmidt) Rizzo, age 74, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on November 8, 1949, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to parents Betty Jean Wolfe and William Jacob Schmidt. Susan was a Military Brat, graduated from Belton High School, Belton, Missouri, in 1967. After High School, Susan became a licensed Cosmetologist, winning many awards for her styles in female hair. In March 1968 she met the love of her life, Joseph (Frank) Rizzo, who was stationed at Richards – Gebaur AFB, Belton Missouri. Susan and Frank were married for 54 years, spending 25 years in the United States Air Force stationed at various stateside Air Force Bases as well as in Europe. Susan would often tell people the 13 years spent in Europe (England and Germany), was like being on a continuous honeymoon. Susan was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. George Maronite Church, Ladies Alter Society and the National Apostolate of Maronites. Susan loved to work in her garden and woodworking.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents Betty Jean Wolfe and Lt. Col (Ret) William Jacob Schmidt. Susan is survived by her husband, MSgt (Ret) Joseph (Frank) Rizzo, Daughter Theresa (Rizzo) Wartian and Son-In-Law, Stephen Wartian.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary West (located near SeaWorld). A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 7:00pm at Porter Loring.

Father Charles Khachan will officiate. Internment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Antonio Humane Society in Susan’s name.
