Sylvia Cecilia Luna, age 78, passed away on Saturday, May 31, in San Antonio. She was married to the love of her life, Rogelio Luna, for 50 and a half wonderful years. Together, they built a life full of adventure, love, and unwavering support. Rogelio’s service in the United States Air Force led them to live in California, Guam and Germany. In 1988 Roger began working with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and they worked in Texas, Arizona and Florida, creating memories in each place they called home. They finally returned to Texas where they both retired, however Sylvia was a homemaker, and in her words, “homemakers never retire”. They were married on November 16, 1974, and from that moment on, they explored the world, traveling from San Francisco to Maine and back.
She earned her nursing certification in 1966 and began her career in healthcare with a deep commitment to helping others. In 1974, she worked as a CNA at Nix Hospital, and then at Metropolitan General Hospital, where her gentle nature and dedication touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.
Family was the center of her world. She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. Her warmth and generosity were felt not only in her words and actions but also in the way she brought joy to every holiday, making each one special with her decorations.
Her legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Victor) LaCourse, Yvette Caldera, Deborah Amaya, and Lynda (Miki) Radan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
