Teresa was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 28, 1925, as the youngest of three daughters. Growing up during the Great Depression, she remembered the hardships her family endured and developed a deep resilience that shaped her strong work ethic. She was the daughter of parents who immigrated from Cork City, Ireland and fondly embraced her Irish heritage, traveling to Cork City in 2002 to visit her ancestral home and church. She married Robert W. Mason Jr. on May 6, 1944, before he enlisted in the Air Corps and fought for our county as a pilot in World War II. Teresa’s focus in the early years following her marriage was on raising her family. With her husband often deployed, she learned how to manage a growing family by herself with support from other military wives. Once all her children were in school, Teresa went to work at Memorial Medical Hospital as a bookkeeper and then at Pace Food Company as the office manager as Pace Picante Sauce was becoming a national brand. Teresa then worked at St. Mary’s University for over 13 years rising to the personnel director until her retirement in 1985.
Teresa was a devout Catholic and strong in her faith. She provided her children with a faith-based education at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School and Church when the family moved to San Antonio and remained a member of the church for over 63 years. She gave back to her church by serving on the Bereavement and Presentation nuns auxiliaries and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas which assists the pastor with special needs in the parish.
May she rest in peace.
