
Thayer E. Ted Acord, 85, of San Antonio, formerly of Dallas, loving husband and wholly devoted to his family, passed away Tuesday, May 7, in a local hospital. Born August 15, 1916, in Jacksboro, TX, he was son of Minnie Berry and James Monroe Acord. His formative years were spent in Hedley and Clarendon, Texas. After graduating from Clarendon High School, he attended Clarendon Junior College and went to the University of Texas, receiving B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering in 1939. He married Rosalie Frances Gilbert on September 21, 1939. Mr. Acord worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY, Dallas, and San Antonio, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a 32nd degree member of Metropolitan Masonic Lodge #1182 and a member of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and Shrine - Alzafar Temple. He was a long-time member of University Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, where he served on the Board, and was later a member of Coker United Methodist Church, San Antonio. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, working in his shop where he was known as Mr. Fix-it, and helping friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Rosalie; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Acord Pursley and Lee Wain of Longview, Karen Acord Shields and Jimmy of Mountain View, AR, Susan Acord Murphie and Bill of Rockville, MD; son, Ken Acord of San Antonio; brother, Randall Acord and wife Marion, Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren, Stephen Pursley of Fort Collins, CO, Susan Sutherland McKinney and husband Mike of Dallas, Todd Sutherland and wife Becki of Frisco, Greg Sutherland and wife Nicole of Frisco; Catherine and Alex Murphie of Rockville, MD; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Emma, and Aimee Sutherland of Frisco, and Katherine McKinney, Dallas. The family extends their thanks to Drs. Carl Hempel and Robert Stevens and the staff of Regent Care Center in their ongoing care of Mr. Acord. Special appreciation to all of the staff at Nix Memorial Hospital for their love, care, and support for Mr. Acord during his illness.
