Grandma,  You are the person whose bed I think about when I think back to when I was too young to have real memories. I remember this vague sound and sensory feeling of laying in you and grandpa's bed staring out the grate of the door or looking up at a gray early morning sky. I can hear cicadas in the summer. That low Texas buzz. The room was hot and I remember kicking all the covers off. And you never came in to wake me. You just let me get up when I did. It must have annoyed you how late I could sleep cause you were such an early riser. I must have been 6, 8... I don't know. But now I am an early riser too.   All of my memories of you aren't your words or lessons but it was your slow quiet routines. I think it's why I like quiet morning routines in my life so much now. I like moving in an order the way you did.   I'd stumble to the kitchen and you sat this chipped green/ white ceramic bowl of cereal in front of me and I'd eat it while I'd watch you cut fruit. You had to wash the dishes before you came to sit yourself. Later you'll serve me ramen noodles in the same bowl. No use using a new one you'd say. Even later I'd watch your steady hands drag a needle in and out of your embroidery or watch you thumb through Reader's Digest while I watched the same episodes of I Love Lucy over and over and you know what... it made me feel safe. You made me feel safe.   Now I cut my fruit every morning. I use the same bowl throughout the day. And when I can for a moment. I lay in my bed early in the morning and stare out at the sky and listen to the sounds knowing I have to get out and start my routine. But now I'll stay just a second longer. Just to think of you. Grandma Tina, I will miss you so much. I have learned so much from you as my loving grandmother.  You taught me how to cook, and sew. Most of all, you taught me how to be a strong woman.  You wanted me to have an education, and I became an RN.  Thank you for the wonderful memories you have given me to hold onto for the rest of my life.  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful loving grandmother like you in my life.  I love you grandma Tina, I love you forever.

My earliest memories of my grandmother are of her cooking. She had one-of-a-kind family recipes for everything from potato salad, Thanksgiving dressing, and bunelos - all requiring a pinch of this or a palm-full of that. I remember my mom and my aunts passing around hand-written recipes they painstakingly took down as my grandma Tina was hurrying around her small kitchen. My grandma’s recipes will be a way to remember her, my childhood, and those happy family gatherings I spent sneaking tastes of everything she was preparing before dinner and running around her massive backyard with my cousins.   My grandma Tina was a strong, sometimes stern, woman whose family was the most important thing to her - she never missed any milestones her grandchildren achieved. I’ll remember her in her perfectly matched outfits - from her suits to her purses to her lipstick - quietly beaming with pride at all of our graduation ceremonies, football games and random miscellaneous school events.   I hope in her passing she’s regained her strength and spirit. She will be forever missed.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to all the family. I have such warm memories of my Godmother, my Aunt Tina. Her beautiful smile, kindness and all the love I felt whenever my Aunt Tina was with me. She was an extraordinary woman; talented seamstress, baked delicious desserts and was a fabulous hostess opening her home to many family celebrations. Yes, my Aunt Tina cherished family! I am especially grateful to my Uncle Sal and Aunt Tina who were constant caregivers to my elderly grandparents and are now reunited in Heaven. Enter into the joy of our Lord, my sweet Aunt Tina.
