Then we were students struggling in life and you offered us this advice in Cantonese "while being tied up, one must endure the beating".  I still remember your advice and had applied it when time was tough knowing that one must endure the hardship because success would follow afterward. We thank you for the advice and also for the hospitality extended to us during our visit to your house in Medan. The curry puff is great! We will remember you as a wise and thoughtful person.

i just shared my memories of Tjat yi back in Medan years a go; with my daughter...i still can remember vividly she was sitting on a box near the window, overlooked across the road, at a bakmi stall, saw people bought curry puffs, and just knew when to leave the window and went to kitchen to fry more curry puffs. Whenever i went to see her (when i am old enough to go visiting Tjat yi on my own, all my cousin has left Medan), i always got to eat the nicest curry puff in the world. May good memories of you prevail beyond your life on earth here.
