Col. Herbert Thomas Pickering, Jr. USAF (Ret.), age 72, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born May 17, 1939 in Fort Lewis, Washington to Herbert Thomas and Jessie Pickering.
He served in the United States Air Force for 25 years from 1965-1990. He flew the B52, EB 66, F111, EF111 (1st Squadron Commander), A7 and F117 (Director of Operations). He served three tours in Viet Nam. Tom loved to travel and celebrated his 50th anniversary early by taking his entire family on a European cruise. He was an avid fly fisherman. One of Tom's passions was playing the guitar and banjo.
Tom will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Jessie Pickering, and sister, Karen DeJerf. Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Pickering; son, Scott Pickering; daughter, Kathaleen Martinez; 2 granddaughters, Jessica and Jordan Martinez.
