Robert was born December 8, 1923, in Memphis, Texas to James M. & Mattie H. White. He served in the US Air Force in the European Theater during WWII. As a P-47 Fighter Pilot he flew 95 combat missions. In 1945 by direction of the President of the United States he was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 5 Clusters. He was a Command Pilot for most of his career. At his last assignment he was a Professor of Air Science at The University of Michigan. He served 20 years before retiring in 1961.
After retirement he owned a successful construction company, building commercial structures in the Bahamas, Grand Cayman & Panama. He retired from business in 1973 and was able to devote his time to his passion for golf, fishing and travel.
By all measure Robert was an American War Hero.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Dossey White; sons, Robert M White, Jr., Richard W. White & wife Michele; grandchildren, Melissa Hess, Joanna Deberardino, Frank Aliva, and Alexa White.
His daughter Katherine W. Aliva preceded him in death.
