SMSgt. Arvell "Art" Kitchens, USAF (Ret.), age 88, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on December 14, 1930 in Monroe, Louisiana to William Elijah and Jelvie (Mott) Kitchens.
He married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Johnson, in Greenville, South Carolina and served for 29 years in the U.S. Air Force. He will be remembered as a great husband, father and grandfather who loved the Spurs, Cowboys, the Raiders and tending to his garden. He was especially proud of his orange trees and would make sure to send oranges to his family when they were ready.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Derek Kitchens; brother, Billy Kitchens; sisters, Algene Boatner, Zana Ezernack and Margaret Porter. Art is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Kitchens; sons, Michael Arvell Kitchens (Lou), Richard W. Lee (Maria); Steve Kitchens (Ann), Jay Kitchens and Thomas Lee (Crista); sisters, Barbara Sellin, Alvene Turner and Helen Mayo; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
