

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Valentin Lopez Jr., age 85, of San Antonio, Texas, on March 24, 2025. He was born on June 16, 1939, to Valentin Lopez and Aurora Lozano in San Antonio, Texas.
Valentin served with honor in the United States Air Force for 9 years. He enlisted in June 1958 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and completed his basic training before going on to train as an instrument repairman. Valentin’s dedication and expertise led him to graduate from Technician School in 1963. His service took him to Goose Bay, Labrador, where he was involved in an aircraft accident that ultimately led to his retirement due to a disability. Valentin retired from Kelly Air Force Base as a librarian, where he continued to serve his country in a different capacity.
He was a proud veteran who valued his time in service and remained active in veterans' organizations, including the VFW Post, where he enjoyed spending time with fellow veterans. Valentin’s passions extended beyond his military career. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved watching football and baseball. When he was younger, he enjoyed dancing and always found joy in spending time with his family and friends. He also found great satisfaction in tending to his yard and taking part in community events, often grilling and barbecuing for gatherings.
Valentin was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and devotion to his family. He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved parents, Valentin Lopez and Aurora Lozano, and his cherished granddaughter, Elise Michelle Haug.
Valentin's memory will forever live in the hearts of his wife, Maria Julia “Julie” Lopez; daughters, Priscilla Medrano and husband Sol Medrano, Diana Haug and husband Chris Haug, Sandra Cook; son, Robert Lopez and wife; grandchildren, Juliana Gonzales, Ariana Medrano, Liliana Medrano, Sol Jr. Medrano, Eliana Medrano, CJ Haug, Nichole Cook, Patrick Cook, Sean Cook; brother, Jose Lopez and wife Tina Lopez; and sisters, Josie Morales and husband Mauricio Morales, Minerva Gutierrez and husband Emilio Gutierrez.
A Visitation for Valentin will be held Monday, April 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Processional will Depart from the funeral home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM for A Mass of the Resurrection that will occur on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11:30 AM at San Juan de los Lagos Parish and Shrine, 3231 El Paso Street, San Antonio, Texas 78207 with a Burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
