Vernon was born in Newport News, Virginia to the parents of Vernon James and Betty Jean Greer.
He retired from City Public Service after 31 years.
Vernon was a member of IBEW and became a member of the National Skeet Shooter of Texas. He was also an official member of the North American Hunting Club.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Sue) Tinti Greer; brother, Donald B. Greer and wife, Timmie; sisters, Pamela Greer and Victoria Greer Kincaid; nieces, Jennifer Greer Handzel; nephews, Kyle and Kole Kincaid; great-nephews, Gage, Lake and Lane and best friend, Gerald "Geronimo" Hummel.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
