Victor was born on August 14, 1936, to parents María del Pilar Flores & Nicolas Castaño Pérez in Lampazos de Naranjo, Nuevo León, México. He received his education in his hometown. Into adulthood, he joined the Mexican Army and proudly served as a drill instructor. After his military service, he married and moved to Texas, dedicating more than 30 years as a skilled welder to H.B. Zachary traveling across Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
He found joy in visiting casinos with his family and treasured road trips to México, making sure to visit every family member along the way, even those that have left us too early. He enjoyed visiting churches and attending mass. Traveling and discovering new places brought him happiness, with memorable trips to Hawaii, California, and New York. He especially cherished attending his favorite concert by Vicente Fernandez. He was a proud man, self-driven, learned how to fix his own vehicles, worked on his favorite 1980’s GMC Jimmy, fixed things around the house, remodeled projects, and enjoyed an ice-cold Miller High Life.
Victor will always be fondly remembered as a beloved family man, celebrated for his rich storytelling and infectious laughter, along with his unwavering devotion to his loved ones. He delighted in sweetbread, empanadas, concha’s, cuernos de México, and the cafecito he lovingly prepared for his wife every day for 62 years of their marriage. He enjoyed cooking all kinds of Mexican dishes for his family, especially BBQ and cabrito. A passionate baseball fan, he admired Fernando Valenzuela, and he also enjoyed soccer rooting for México and España.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dr. Hortencia “Chachi” Castaño-Urbanowiez; his sisters, Guadalupe Castaño de Cruz, Rosalinda Castaño de Villarreal, and Hortensia Castaño Flores; his brothers, Francisco Castaño Flores, and Manuel S. Castaño; and his parents, Nicolas Castaño Pérez and María del Pilar Flores Castaño.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Gregoria Ramirez Castaño. He leaves behind his cherished children: Victor J. Castaño (Melissa), Patricia Castaño Torres (Hector), Rosalinda Castaño (Marisa), and Maricela Castaño (Andrea). His legacy continues through his loving grandchildren: August Moon Castillo, Phoenix Alexander Castaño, Hector Torres III, and Carly Nicole Torres, as well as his great-granddaughter, Skarlett Avery Cuellar. He is also survived by son-in-law Robert Urbanowiez (Chachi), various nieces, nephews, and extended family.
