Victor Conrad Rogers, former longtime Temple resident, passed away on February 6, 2016 at his home in San Antonio. Victor was born May 2, 1931 in the small Central Texas community of Irene to Bonnie Belle Hawkins and Victor Rogers. He graduated from nearby Bynum High School in 1948 and enjoyed planning and attending class reunions for over 50 years.
Despite his deep and abiding affection for the "Blackland Prairie of North Central Texas," Victor would tell you that his greatest moment came in Lake Charles, Louisiana, when he met his one true love -- Rose Phillips. They were married in 1952 and she remained his best friend and loving companion for over 63 years.
Victor served four years in the Air Force as a Military Pay and Finance Officer during the Korean Conflict, the highlight of which was time spent on duty in Morocco, Africa. He attended North Texas State University and graduated from the National Mortgage School at Ohio State University. He worked in the banking industry for most of his career, starting out at Republic National Bank of Dallas, and then working at banks in Paris, Jefferson, Hallsville and Kilgore. Victor, Rose and their three daughters moved to Temple in 1975 for Victor's position as a Vice President with Texas Bank. He later owned and operated a Texaco service station at 5th and French, serving his customers both humor and gasoline. A small insurance business kept him busy in retirement, as did his weekly visits to East Bell County for sausage burgers and sauerkraut! Victor was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Temple for over 30 years. After moving to San Antonio in 2013 he joined Helotes Hills United Methodist Church.
Victor is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters and their husbands: Vicki and Stephen Graham of Helotes, Stacey and Eric Griffin of Dallas, and Leslie and Rinn Harper of Leander; his wonderful grandchildren, Clayton and Alison Graham, Katie and Aaron Burnfield, Ryann Griffin, John Riley Griffin, and Jason Harper; and, his darling great- grandchildren, Stephen Graham IV, and Taylor Rose Burnfield.
A visitation will be held at Helotes Hills United Methodist Church on Monday, February 8th beginning at 1:30 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Victor will be buried Tuesday, February 9th at 3:00 p.m. at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Memorials can be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation (curearthritis.org/honorary-gifts) in Victor's memory. You are invited to sign the Guestbook at www.porterloring.com.
