Vidal “Billy” Gill, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 76. He was born on September 6, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas to parents Angelita Martinez and Jose Jesus Gill.
Billy was devoted to his family and his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965 and served as a reservist with honor and distinction throughout his military commitment.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 from St. Mary’s University with a major in industrial engineering and a minor in accounting, he began his professional career in engineering with the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Bill, as his professional colleagues called him, continued his engineering career with Mars, Inc. (Uncle Ben’s) in Houston, Texas. At Uncle Ben’s, he decided to transition from engineering to finance, which provided him the opportunity to be promoted to an executive position. He used his finance experience to secure positions in several large corporations, including TEL America in Austin, Texas where he worked until he retired in 2007.
Bill volunteered his time and talent to his church, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Round Rock, Texas. He served for many years in various capacities such as church elder, treasurer, and facilitator of numerous bible studies.
Bill enjoyed traveling, preparing gourmet dinners, listening to music, reading, and visiting museums. Throughout his lifetime, Bill traveled to numerous countries, including Japan, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, and Belize. He savored these countries’ cuisine and ventured into gourmet cooking in the early 90’s and found a new interest. He started cooking family dinners and continually perfected his culinary techniques. It brought him great joy to prepare a nice dinner for his family, loved ones and friends. Bill was an avid reader and music enthusiast. His recollection of artists and names of songs was impressive.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and son Cpl Steven Patrick Gill. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann Uranga Gill, son James Douglas Gill, step-daughter Valerie Dawson and her husband Ryan, grandsons Charlie and Andrew, as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
