Vincent Joseph (Duke) Tanzola, LTC, US Army (Ret), passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2009. He was born on May 24, 1926, in Camp Guillard, Panama Canal Zone. Upon graduation from Michigan State University he was commissioned 2nd LT, US Army. He proudly and honorably served 28 years active duty at numerous stations in the United States, as well as tours in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He received many honors while serving in the military and upon retirement was awarded his 2nd Legion of Merit. Duke is survived by his beloved wife Anna (Long) McCall Tanzola; precious dachshund "Pookie"; daughters Shari Blaydes (Rob), Gayle Hannum, LeAnne McCall-Wisner (Mark), and Lisa McCall Hodgson (Mark); sons Brian Tanzola (Juli) and David McCall (Lori); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; and a lifetime of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy "Dottie" (Eaton) Tanzola; son Lee Vincent Tanzola; parents Colonel Vincent J. and Ethel (Coe) Tanzola; sisters Marietta and Ethel; brother Chip; and son-in-law Mike Hannum. A private graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In LTC Tanzola's memory, contributions may be made to the Animal Defense League, ASPCA or a charity of choice.
