Violet "Babe" Juhnke, the vivacious, effervescent, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and daughter, passed away in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. She was 82 years old. Babe was born in Muskegon, Michigan.
For more than 20 years, Babe was a prominent Muskegon restaurateur known as the face and spirit of Jerry's Restaurant on the Causeway and Jerry's Roosevelt Roost in downtown Roosevelt Park.
Babe grew up in her parent's restaurant, the Demos Coffee Shoppe, and later worked there with her father, mother, brother, and sister.
A Muskegon Heights Tiger Alumna, Babe was a cheerleader, choir member, and thespian. Babe married her high school sweetheart, Jerry, and traveled extensively during Jerry's years in the United States Air Force.
The couple returned to Muskegon, established their restaurants and enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan from Holland to Northport. Babe and Jerry retired to Greensboro, NC and later San Antonio, TX to be closer to their grandchildren, Bryce and Brenna.
She was a longtime member of Muskegon's Calvary Baptist Church and a gifted Sunday school teacher, children's church and VBS leader, choir member, and hurricane response volunteer.
