

On October 13, 2009 Virginia Sue Pugh Jockusch entered eternal life. Sue was born in Decatur, Texas, "the County Seat of Wise" on August 2, 1922. She is predeceased by her parents, by her brother, Earl G. Pugh, Jr. and by a son, William. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Sealy Jockusch and her son John and his wife Kimberly. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Jockusch Pederson and husband Scott, Shealyn Jockusch Buist and husband Ashley, John Jockusch III and wife Sabrina, and Julius Scott Jockusch. Her great-grandchildren are John IV and Adam Jockusch, and Casey and Ty Pederson. In 1942, while working at Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company in Oklahoma City, Sue met her future husband Lt. John Jockusch, who was stationed at Will Rogers Field. After an eight-month courtship they married on August 15, 1943. Upon separation from the service they moved to John's hometown of Galveston, living there for two years before moving to San Antonio in a blizzard on January 1, 1947. Sue was active in many organizations and had many friends whom she cherished. Sue and her husband have always been very involved in the Episcopal Church, and she contributed much to St. David's parish. Her artistic talent enabled her to design and construct the large ceramic sanctuary cross; to create the design and dcor of the chapel; and to produce a lovely set of altar hangings for the church. She was an enthusiastic founder of the Meals-on-Wheels program, served as the second female Senior Warden, sang in the choir, and worked on various church committees. Sue also participated in numerous cultural, civic and charitable organizations, and created The Sue Jockusch Endowed Scholarship for the College of Fine Arts at UTSA. Her social and civic involvement included the S.A. Ski Club, Los Alegredores, The Forum, Timely Topics, Monte Vista Garden Club, Luby's Ladies, Battle of Flowers Association 1982 Parade Chairman, Le Club, Junior League and the San Antonio Country Club. Sue was a well loved and respected person. She will be missed by the many whom she has touched.
