W L Whitis entered into rest on December 28, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 94. He was one of nine children, born on December 4, 1919, to the late William Lester and Eupha Ollie Whitis in Kempner, Texas. W L entered into the Army Air Corp in 1942 and worked on B29 Bombers until his honorable discharge as a Technician Sergeant in 1946. He was a member of the Masons for 50+ years and was an avid golfer. He loved to stay involved with the golf community in San Antonio. W L also was the owner of Alamo Bolt and Screw, which he started in 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Dorothy Whitis.
W L is survived by his brother Maurice Whitis, brother-in-law Joe Rushing, and 15 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 6, 2014 from 5-8:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
