

He was born on April 11, 1927 in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Wilson Carter, Sr. and Katherine Marion Carter.
During World War II he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Upon war's end, he transferred to the University of Texas where he received a degree in geology. Wilson was a member of the Texas National Guard for 18 years, and he was a Major of Artillery.
He was a member of the University of Texas Geological Society, an avid outdoorsman, and a patriot.
Wilson is survived by his wife and friend Rosalie M. J. Carter; daughter Eliza Katherine Duncan and her husband Johnny, son Will Carter and his wife Dana, son John Carter and his wife Ana Francisca, stepsons Paul E. Jornayvaz and his wife Mary, and Robert P. Jornayvaz, III and his wife Louisa; grandchildren, Kate Oshins and her husband Justin Jay, Emily Duncan, Lillian Duncan, Catarina Carter, Mattie Carter, Jake Carter, Maria Carter, Sarah Jane Howell and her husband Jack P. Howell, Joseph Jornayvaz and his wife Isla, Auna Wolf and her husband Andrew, Kaytlyn Jornayvaz, Robert Jornayvaz, IV and 4 great-grandchildren.
