Aunt Wanda, as she was known by so many who loved her, was born and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After her mother passed away, she helped to raise her sister Kerma until leaving to attend Prairie View A&M University. She later lived in California for a significant part of her life. There she helped to raise her beloved nephew, Kevin. While in California, Aunt Wanda would organize huge block parties for friends and neighbors. People liked to be around her and throughout her life they found themselves visiting with her, listening to her stories and sharing a laugh. Aunt Wanda loved to travel and see the world. She visited Greece, Amsterdam, Holland, the Bahamas, and cruised the Caribbean. She traveled across the United States in her motorhome and loved to fish. Playing the slots in Las Vegas was great fun for her. She made time to gamble frequently and enjoyed one last trip to Eagle Pass two years ago with her sister, Kerma and nieces Cheri and Keli.
Wanda worked for GTE as an executive and retired after 31 years of service. She contracted with the company for an additional three years before moving to San Antonio in 1997 to be near Kerma and her family. Wanda loved to cook for her family and was tickled every time one of her boys visited with her. She leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly but rejoice in the fact that she has joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Viola (DuBose) Taylor; brother, Maurice D. Taylor; Brother-in-law, Claude Wilson. Wanda is survived by her sister, Kerma T. Wilson; nephew, Maurice K. Taylor and wife Michelle; nieces, Stacye Alfred and husband Craig, Cheri Wilson and Keli Wilson; great-nephew, Desmond Taylor; great-nieces, Shantelle Taylor and Sydnee Alfred and many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
