William R. "Bill" Boyd, Sr. lived a life filled with laughter, love, and dedication to his family and friends. On March 18th, 2025, at the age of 72, he cast his final line, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom and cherished moments.
Born on September 6th, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. Bill was known for his quick wit, kind heart, and the ability to make anyone feel like an old friend. Whether he was swapping stories, lending a helping hand, or sharing a laugh, Bill made a lasting impact on those around him.
Bill was a proud graduate of Winston Churchill High School, where he formed friendships and experiences that shaped the man he became. He later attended Abilene Christian University, where his time there influenced his journey in both business and life.
An avid fisherman, Bill found joy and peace casting his line in the waters of Rockport, TX, where he spent countless hours making memories with family and friends. That same passion and dedication extended into his career. Bill built lifelong relationships through his work in fleet truck sales, taking pride not just in selling and delivering vehicles but in truly connecting with the people he served.
Earlier in his career, Bill worked in lighting sales alongside his father and brother at Boyd Corporation. When his father retired from the lighting business he took the skills and trade instilled in him by his father and opened his own business, Lamps and Lighting, where he served the community with his knowledge and craftsmanship.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who found his greatest joy in the love of his family. He is survived by the love of his life, Debbie Boyd; daughter, Jennifer Boyd Herbsleb (Curtis); son, William R. "BJ" Boyd, Jr. (Jennifer); grandsons, Garett, Austin, and Kyle; his stepmother Barbara Boyd; brother Jim Boyd (Michelle); sister, Sally Boyd Sullivan (Jamie); step-sister, Carolyn Doyle Machado (Frank); step-sister Dana Doyle Chin (Robert), as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William H. Boyd Jr., and mother, Dorothy Richardson Doyle (step-father Desmond Doyle).
Visitation will take place at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home on March 29th, from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Funeral services will be held on March 30th, from 12:00pm - 1:00pm, with a graveside following.
The family would also love the friends and guests to wear the favorite fishing shirts in honor of Bill.
Though Bill may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the stories we share, the laughter he inspired and the lessons he left behind.
