

He was born February 23, 1932, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Helen Dickey and William Earle Carswell, Sr.
Bill entered college on a football scholarship only to have it interrupted by service in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. During his tour in Japan, Bill was one of two Americans who attained a black belt in Judo from a Japanese Dojo.
Following graduation from Mississippi Southern College, with a BS in Marketing, Bill had a 40 year career in the banking and financial industry. This career span began with American General, then to Alamo Savings, then to the FDIC and concluded with his retirement from the San Antonio Teachers' Credit Union. His avocation was electronics, with a vocational certification from The Texas Electronic Association.
For the past 24 years, Bill was a devoted attendee of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he was also known for using his knowledge of electronics in his volunteer work with the church.
Bill was an avid fly fisherman, golfer, racquet ball and tennis player. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and baking.
He was a wonderfully loving husband, father, son and tennis coach!
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane C. Mishler; son, William Earle Carswell, III.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Margret Furman Carswell; children, Douglas and Sarah Carswell, Mary Jane Lester and husband, Fred, Virginia Lindsay; grandchildren, Nicole Lester and Jason Carswell, Crystal Kilpatrick and husband, Dominik, Alexandra and Katherine Lindsay; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
