William Walter Cox, known affectionately as Bill to his loved ones, went home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on April 20, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. He was born on May 1, 1953 to parents Annette Marie and Horace Melvin Cox, Jr.
A devoted husband of 48 years to his wife, Barbara, Bill was a true partner in every sense of the word. The Sacrament of Marriage that bonded them together brought forth a life of unwavering commitment. Together, they welcomed their two daughters, Jilly and Emme. Bill’s role as a father was one he cherished deeply and he instilled in his daughters the values of kindness, integrity, family, and serving the Lord. The joy of his life multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Archer, Dean, Mabel, and Lucy.Bill’s passion for his work was evident to all who knew him. His attention to detail in building custom homes and remodeling was an outlet for his God-given talent of creativity and he greatly enjoyed every project that came his way over the past forty five years.Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was deeply involved in his Catholic parish, St. Mark the Evangelist, with the Men’s ACTS community. Bill’s faith-filled spirit was an inspiration to many and his involvement in the community reflected his dedication to living a life of service and performing corporal works.
Bill had an affinity for the simpler things in life. His two “green thumbs” and knowledge of horticulture allowed him to grow just about anything imaginable. He loved westerns, Mexican food, and simply being outside in God’s creation.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Rothe. He is survived by his wife Barbara Cox; daughters, Jillian Cox and Emme Songer (Adam); grandchildren Archer William, Dean Campbell, Mabel Annette, and Lucy Kay; siblings Kenneth Cox, Cheri DeSalme, Mary Watts, Christine Smith, and Laurie Cox; as well as countless other family and friends. As we bid farewell to William Walter Cox, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy.
