

He was born on May 25, 1944 to Haywood N. and Sadie Mae Gaskins Harris and raised on their Clubfoot Creek farm located in Bachelor, North Carolina.
Bill graduated from Beaufort High School in 1962. He was a starting tackle on the 1959 State Championship team, earning numerous conference and regional awards. He also served on the 1960-1962 State Championship basketball teams.
After a tour in the Air Force, Bill attended N.C. State University, graduating with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering Operations. He held numerous positions within several electronics manufacturing companies retiring from Motorola in 2005 as the Manager of Manufacturing Operations at their Seguin, TX facility.
Bill fulfilled his dream of becoming a private pilot in 1999 and loved to fly his Piper Cherokee every chance he got.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah Cross Harris and their son Jay Harris (Kimberly) and granddaughters Haley and Holly.
Bill is also survived by his former wife Peg Bader, their sons Michael Harris (Joanne), Robert Harris (Kim) and grandsons, Jimmy, Ryan, and Nicholas.
Additionally, he is survived by sister, Sadie Alexander(Roger), brother Denard Harris(Kay), sister Sylvia Wheatly, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Oak Grove Methodist Church on Adams Creek Road in Bachelor, North Carolina on January 21 at 2 PM.
