He was born March 18, 1932, in the hospital on E. Main Street that has since burned down. His parents were J. Paul and Ettie Henderson. They lived on nearby ranch land and J. Paul had a real estate company on the square. Bill was a 1950 Hamilton HS graduate. He went on to get a business degree from Baylor in 1955.
In his bio, Bill states that 1955 was “a very busy year”. Within three days he became a college graduate, a married man and an Air Force Commissioned Officer. He married Evelyn Muegge from Waco. Together they enjoyed the travel and friends of the helicopter community serving our country. Bill flew all types of helicopters. He supported Atomic Energy Testing in Nevada and Christmas Island in the 50s, served in Vietnam in the 60s, shared his expertise training others in the 70s and retired in 1975.
For the next 20 years he was very successful in San Antonio real estate. Together, he and Evelyn made a whole new set of friends and colleagues.
A second retirement led him back home to Hamilton where he took care of the family ranch properties. He loved the land and creatures on it.
Bill was known as a very honorable and ethical man. He was very protective of his family. His daughter remembers that he put aftermarket seat belts in the ‘59 BelAir and the ignition would not be started until everyone was “buckled up”.
Friends and family will come together for his burial March 27 at 1pm in the Evergreen Cemetery on Hwy 36.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Kathryn; son in law, Danny; and grandson, Kevin Watford. Nieces and nephews and many greats called him Uncle Bill, his favorite being Linda. Preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Samuel L. Henderson.
