
William H. Middleton, M.D. passed away on May 27th in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Smith's Grove, Kentucky on May 25, 1921. He entered the Navy in 1938 and served as a pharmacist's mate in the Atlantic Fleet. He attended Ursinus College and Temple Medical School under the G.I. Bill and served in the Navy Reserve as a Lt. Commander. Dr. Middleton had a general practice in Central City, Iowa until he was called back into the Navy during the Korean War. At this time he was trained in anesthesiology at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Upon returning from the service, he practiced in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1954 to 1975, at which time he retired and moved to San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents Jennie and William Middleton and a brother Joe Middleton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Reed Middleton; children, Carol Hammes of Bailey, Colorado, John Middleton of Hamburg, Germany, and Elizabeth Phelps and husband William Phelps of Crystal Lake, Illinois; grandchildren, Christopher Middleton, Niclas Middleton, and Marisa Middleton of Berlin, Germany and Brian Phelps of Crystal Lake, Illinois; sisters, Esther Falin of Louisville, Kentucky and Martha Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
