

Pat Shannon of San Antonio, died on Monday, November 25, 2002. He was born on a ranch outside of Tilden, TX. He graduated from Fowlerton High School and Southwest Texas State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Master's degree in Education. He served two years in the US Air Force from 1941-1943. Coach Shannon was head football coach at Pleasanton High School, Emerson Jr. High School, Fox Tech High School, Edison High School and Jefferson High School. While at Edison, the football team had the best 3AAA record in the State. He coached at Jefferson for nine years, during that time the school was awarded more college football scholarships than any other high school in the United States. He was Assistant Principal at Brackenridge High School. He was Principal at McCollum High School for eight years and during that time the school was awarded the Bellamy Award as the outstanding High School in the state. An award the state is eligible for once every 50 years. He was also Principal at Alamo Heights High School for five years. Coach Shannon retired while employed with Northeast ISD after having contributed a grand total of 50 years of educational service to the youth of Texas. The State of Texas acknowledged his contributions to education at the time of his retirement. As community service, he served as President of the Harlandale Administrators Association, he served two terms as President of the State Association of Texas Pioneers, he was president of Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity, he was President of the San Antonio Quarterback Club. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, he also served six years as President of Live Oak Beefmaster Breeders Association and was recipient of the 2002 Legend Award from that Association. Another Legend Award was received with his induction into the San Antonio Sports Foundation Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a life member of the Texas PTA and at the time of his death he was on the Board of Directors of the South Texas Area Farm and Ranch Club. He was a member of Perfect Union #10 Blue Lodge. He served as a Deacon at Manor Baptist Church. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and inducted into the Hall of Honor in 1972. He was a 32nd Degree Mason-Scottish Rite-member of the Alzafar Shrine. He was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a member of the San Antonio Knife and Fork Club. Survivors include his wife, Jerry McClellan Shannon; son, Patrick Shannon and wife Susan; grandsons, Bill Shannon and wife Anne, Tim Shannon and wife Jennifer; great granddaughters, Kailey and Caroline all of San Antonio; brother, L.T. Shannon of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; other family members include Suzanne Kocurek, Doug and Karen Ray, Parker Ray and Trenton Kelly all of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis Timothy Shannon and Fanny Kate Martin Shannon and a baby brother Matthew Martin Shannon. Honorary Pallbearers: Cherokee Brown, Jake Brown, Alvin Padilla, David Casanova, Robert Clements, Tommy Murrah, Alex Todd and Tommy Nobis.
